Olive & Ash
So today I finally got to test out a couple of the vintage lenses that I scored the other day! Ash and I took Olive on a walk across the street to an open field just before the sun dropped behind the trees! It was a little early for catching the "power hour" as photo bugs say but I really wanted to challenge the old lenses and see how the did in direct back light situations. I took the Minolta 55mm F 1.7 and my new beauty, the Canon FD 35-105 F 3.5. I was very impressed in the color and sun flaring that the glass produced. I did not use any hoods or diffusion to really bring out the best/worst in extreme conditions.
You know for me these legacy lenses are not just a cheap solution to getting great glass, they are also a piece of history that you are able to give new life. I love that my grandfather used to use this Minolta lens to shoot his family and photo work. And I especially love the character you get from these old lenses.
After a quick retouch tonight I am happy with the pics. Ashley and I edited them together too which makes this process a lot more fun. Remember these lenses are FULLY MANUAL meaning no auto-focus either. I am used to this being a video guy but in photography situations, especially in really bright light, it can be extremely hard to find perfect crisp focus. That being said I think they came out great and even an out of focus picture of these ladies is a beautiful pic : )
